French multinational automobile manufacturer Renault recently announced two platforms during the launch of its ‘New International Gameplan 2027’ in Brazil.
The company claims that these platforms would serve as the cornerstone of its new strategy for areas outside of Europe. According to Autocar India, the CEO of Renault, Fabrice Cambolive, stated during the presentation that the platforms will underlie eight new cars. All of these models will be manufactured and released outside of Europe, with the last one arriving no later than 2027, reports add.
The French carmaker has concentrated on the most profitable categories in Europe – Electronic Vehicles (EVs) and small vehicles – as part of its 2021 strategy turnaround, Reuters reports. In addition, Renault claims that by 2027, EVs and hybrids will account for one-third of all sales outside of Europe, reports state.
What Is This New International Gameplan 2027?
The French automaker will invest three billion euros over the next four to five years as part of its new global strategy. This is a part of the brand’s “Renaulution,” which intends to double its net revenue per unit sold outside of Europe from 2019 to 2027. Additionally, the company states that one in three Renault vehicles sold outside of Europe will be electric or hybrid. Presently, Renault is sold in 80 countries, with 40 per cent of those sales originating from outside of Europe.
Renault’s First Platform: Fully Flexible
Renault reportedly declined to give the platform headed to India a name. But Renault’s VP of Product Performance, Bruno Vanel, has described it as “a fully new Renault Group modular platform that will be used in four hubs beyond Europe.” The first market on the list would be Latin America, followed by Turkey, Morocco, and then India.
Renault’s Second Platform: Compact Modular Architecture
The second platform is called Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), and it will be localised in South Korea in collaboration with Geely, a Chinese multinational automotive company. Additionally, D- and E-segment car development will use this platform. The Niagara Concept Pickup and the Kardian SUV – two cars built on the new flexible platform, were also displayed by Renault at the grand event.
