At least two people were killed and 13 others injured after an under-construction school building collapsed in Anekal near Bengaluru on Friday. Around 15 labourers were working at the site when the incident happened in Anekal’s Badarahalli. All injured were immediately rushed to the hospital.
According to an India Today report, Mallikarjun Balbandi, Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police (SP), said that the building collapsed during the construction of a portico on the second floor at St. Agnes School.
The official further stated that said that the debris at the incident site has been cleared out and no one is trapped under it.
Balbani also noted that two of the 13 injured labourers sustained “grievous injuries”. “Anekal Police and the fire department are currently on-site, and injured individuals are being shifted to Anekal government hospital,” he was quoted by India Today as saying.
The labourers were reportedly from Karnataka, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
Last month, one person was killed after an under-construction building collapsed in Bengaluru’s Suddaguntepalya.
“The incident occurred during excavation work. One worker has been killed in the accident,” Bengaluru DCP South East, CK Baba had said.
In November 2023, a Nursery school run by the Bruhat Bengaluru Nagara Palike (BBMP) had collapsed, damaging several vehicles. No casualties were reported in the incident.
