Encountering insects in meals, whether served or ordered from restaurants, has unfortunately become an almost regular incident, in recent years. This unsettling trend surfaced once again in Bengaluru, where a resident named Harshitha had an unpleasant encounter with her meal. After ordering chicken fried rice, she was left shocked after finding a dead cockroach in it. Expressing her disgust, she took to social media, shared a video of the incident and urged for an ‘immediate resolution’ from Zomato. As per her post, she had ordered the dish from Koramangala 5th Block’s Tapri By The Corner restaurant. Soon after her post went viral, the company acknowledged the issue.
Tagging Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, Department of Consumer Affairs and the delivery app in her X post, Harshitha wrote, “I ordered chicken fried rice in Zomato from a restaurant, TAPRI BY THE CORNER. I got a cockroach in my food. Absolutely disgusted with my order. This is completely unacceptable and unhygienic. Need an immediate resolution.”

After the Bengaluru woman shared the post, Zomato quickly requested her to send her contact information and order ID through private message, so that the company can resolve the issue.
Prior to this recent incident, another Bengaluru resident had a similar unsettling experience. This previous case involved an individual who took to Reddit to share their disappointment after discovering a dead cockroach in their meal ordered from the restaurant Zamindar. Sharing the post, the user wrote, “Please help me bring this place down. I visited Zamindar today (Kalyan Nagar). There was a roach in the chicken piece, upon complaining the staff did nothing. What should I do?”

A user wrote, “Their food license won’t be affected. U can choose to not pay money for the food and go away. This is India.”
Another shared, “I remember finding glass pieces in a jar of Jam (Huge brand, Fortune 100 company) around 20 years ago. Dad was furious and called the company helpline, next day, the regional VP and 3 other people were at our home. They recalled the entire batch and compensated us.”
“Bear Grylls would definitely love the extra Protein,” a comment read.
Another suggested, “Give Google a review with pictures. Post on Twitter and tag all food, health and other ministers.”
