New Delhi: The government on Sunday lifted its ban on cotton exports, with Commerce Minister Anand Sharma saying that the interests of the farmers, traders and industrialists had been kept in mind to make a balanced decision.
"Keeping in view the interests of farmers, traders and industrialists, a balanced view had been taken to roll back the ban on cotton exports," he said.
A formal announcement with regard to the same will be made on Monday.
Sharad Pawar, Pranab Mukherjee and Anand Sharma met for almost two hours on Saturday on the directions of the Prime Minister to review the Commerce Ministry's decision to ban cotton exports.
Imposing the ban, Sharma had argued that textile mills had their lowest stocks in a decade and India had already exported 85 lakh bales, more than the estimated 84 lakh bales.
