Madurai: As part of its efforts to industrially develop Madurai and other southern districts of Tamil Nadu, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising an event, which would include an exhibition and buyer-seller meets from October 5.
The Southern Prosperity through Economic Enhanced Development (SPEED) would also feature a conference and state and country pavilions, CII Tamil Nadu Chairman and Director of Lakshmi Machine Tools Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu said.
The CII expected senior government officials to attend the four-day conference, which would focus on bringing major industries in the Tuticorin-Madurai corridor.
The move is expected to help developing the Tuticorin Port as a hub-port, while introducing international flight operations to Madurai and developing tourism.
The four-day exhibition venue would be fully air-conditioned and would be like the annual trade fair organised at Delhi.
A forum networking international investors would be formed and like "Coimbatore.com", "Madurai.com" would come into existence shortly, he said.
Making out a strong case for exploiting the potential of the region, he said Madurai had all the advantages including availability of skilled man-power for major industries.
He added that the state government should concentrate on improving the power situation to bring major industries to south Tamil Nadu.
It should also bring more Information Technology companies to the city, he said adding CII was willing to support whatever initiative taken by the government to bring an IT Park to Madurai.
