Sensex ends 64 points down; SBI, ONGC, Bharti, Tata Motors rally 2 per cent
The Nifty managed to close above the 5850-levels, down 18.60 points or 0.32 per cent at 5873.85.

Mumbai: After getting hammered during the day, the market recoverd in late trade. Just ahead of the September expiry, the Sensex ended on Tuesday at 19856.24, down 63.97 points or 0.32 per cent.

The Nifty managed to close above the 5850-levels, down 18.60 points or 0.32 per cent at 5873.85. About 1035 shares have advanced, 1246 shares declined, and 157 shares are unchanged. Banking, FMCG and oil & gas especially oil marketing companies stocks dragged the indices. Reliance, HDFC Bank , M&M, HUL and Bajaj Auto were top losers in the Sensex.

Meanwhile, capital goods, metals and pharma stocks lend support to the indices. BHEL was the star of the day gaining around 8 per cent, followed by Hindalco, Sesa Goa , NTPC and SBI . Midcap stocks outperformed with Sun Pharma Advanced, HT Media , Pipavav Defence, Sobha Developer and Shipping Corp of India leading the pack.
