The market opened on a flat note with the Sensex down 22.30 points at 20871.59.
Mumbai: BSE Sensex on Tuesday ended 28 points down at 20,864.97. This after the market opened on a flat note with the Sensex down 22.30 points at 20871.59, and the Nifty down 12.65 points or 0.20 per cent at 6192.30.
About 217 shares advanced, 116 shares declined, and 14 shares are unchanged.
Banking stocks are under pressure with ICICI Bank and HDFC as major laggards. Reliance, ITC and NTPC are other losers in the Sensex. Wipro, ONGC, TCS, Maruti and Tata Steel are top gainers in the Sensex.
The Indian rupee slipped 25 paise in the early trade to 61.77 per dollar against 61.52 on Monday.
