Two NHAI Rules That Might Allow Free Passage For Cars At Toll Plazas

There is hardly any city in the country today where one does not have to pay tolls to travel. As fast as the number of vehicles and expressways is increasing, the toll plazas are also built at the same rate. You must have paid money at the toll plaza many times, but do you know the two rules that allow you to pass through the toll plaza for free? It is guaranteed by the National Highway Authority (NHAI) itself.

The NHAI has given great relief and rights to the drivers through an order dated May 26, 2021. In this order of the NHAI, two such rules related to tolls have been cited, with the help of which the drivers can exit the cab without paying a toll. NHAI also said that if the drivers are facing any problem in this facility, then they can directly call our toll-free number.

The NHAI had issued rules three years ago regarding getting out of the vehicle without paying the toll fee at the toll plaza. It said that if there is a long queue at the toll plaza and your vehicle is parked 100 meters or more from the toll plaza, you do not have to pay the toll. For this purpose, a yellow stripe is put up at every toll plaza indicating a distance of 100 meters. Of course, if your vehicle is more than 100 meters away, you can go through the toll plaza without paying.

NHAI has issued another rule that one cannot wait for more than 10 seconds to pass through the toll plaza for free. This policy states that if one has to wait for more than 10 seconds at the toll plaza, one can pass through the toll plaza without paying any charges. NHAI has also said that if you have to wait for more than 10 seconds at the toll plaza, you can contact their helpline, 1033.

NHAI has issued this rule and a guideline regarding this but it is a big challenge for the common man and drivers to avail this facility. The main reason for this is that almost all the toll plazas in the country have been given to private companies and the staff working there are not aware of this policy. There have been many incidents where the toll plaza staff have beaten up the drivers for any kind of protest. In such a situation, the NHAI needs to issue clear instructions to the toll plaza staff to implement this policy.
