The size of a country’s economy is a clear indicator of its propensity to have a larger number of high-net-worth individuals. Nine of the top 12 countries with the largest wealthy populations also rank among the top 10 countries by gross domestic product (GDP).
However, Switzerland and Singapore are notable exceptions, performing exceptionally well due to their status as offshore financial centres. Their tax benefits, asset protection and privacy attract wealthy individuals at a higher rate. For smaller countries, attracting external wealth can significantly boost economic activity.
