16 Vayathinile is one of the movies which has achieved cult status in Tamil cinema and is considered the trendsetter for Indian cinema after depicting the realistic portrayals of rural life. It was written and directed by Bharathirajaa. The movie starred Kamal Haasan, Sridevi and Rajinikanth in the lead roles. Among this ensemble cast, actor Sathyajith carved a niche for himself after portraying the role of a doctor in the movie. He played the character of an upper-class youth with a dignified appearance and a sharp English tongue. The performance of the actor was loved by the audience and critics. Desiring to be a director, Sathyajith never thought in his life that he would become a famous actor through this movie. The actor is now set to make his comeback with his Kannada directorial Bullet.
In a candid conversation with Vikatan News, actor Sathyajith recounts his journey from 16 Vayathinile to his upcoming movie Bullet. He landed his breakthrough role in 16 Vayathinile after director Bharathirajaa saw the potential of Sathyajith during the audition round. The actor was studying at the Chennai Film Institute. Sathyajith expresses gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside legends like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Sridevi.
“It was my second year of acting. My photo came in the paper after completing my studies and winning the gold medal. They saw it at the Amman Creations office and called me through photographer Lakshmikanthan” said Sathyajith. He also expressed his gratitude to the makers for casting him alongside the superstars Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and Sridevi in a movie.
After the massive success of 16 Vayathinile, Sathyajith acted in a few more Tamil movies but couldn’t produce a hit. Talking about the same, the actor said that he doesn’t regret it as he always wanted to become a director rather than an actor. After some time, the actor left Chennai and settled in his hometown in Bangalore. He settled with his family of two children–a girl and a boy. After relocating to his hometown, Sathiyajith found solace in family life but continued to yearn for creative fulfilment.
To fulfil his 48-year-old dream, the actor decided to direct and act in a film. He is coming with his upcoming film titled Bullet. The shooting of the movie has been completed and it is in the post-production stage now. Actor Dharma Keerthiraj will be playing the lead role in the film. Sathyajith is also set to act in the film. Excited about the film’s release and its potential to dub in different languages, the actor became emotional and said “When the film releases, my 48-year-old dream will have come true.”
