Blunder By Blundell! NZ Wicketkeeper Drops A Sitter To Give Lifeline To Rishabh Pant - WATCH
The incident took place on the third ball of the 15th over of Indian innings, which was bowled by William O'Rourke. Pant was batting on 7 runs from 15 balls at that time.

New Zealand wicketkeeper Tom Blundell dropped a routine catch off William O’Rourke bowling on Thursday (October 17) to give a lifeline to Rishabh Pant in the ongoing first Test against India. The incident took place on the third ball of the 15th over of Indian innings. Pant was batting on 7 runs from 15 balls when a ball kissed the edge of his bat and carried straight to Blundell, but the 34-year-old failed to grab it.

The video of Blundell dropping a routine catch to give a lifeline to Pant is now going viral on the internet.

Pant came out to bat at No. 5 for India in the series opener after Matt Henry dismissed Sarfaraz Khan on the fourth ball of the 10th over. Sarfaraz, who replaced Shubman Gill in India’s playing XI, failed to open his account and got out for three-ball duck.

New Zealand opener Devon Conway completed a super catch by diving to his right to bring an end to his innings.

India will have high expectations from Pant in the ongoing Test against New Zealand after it has lost three batters for just 10 runs in 10 overs. Rohit Sharma was the first India batter to return to the pavilion. He was clean bowled by Tim Southee for 2 runs from 16 balls. Virat Kohli came out to bat at No. 3 for India in the Tests after eight years but failed to make the most of the opportunity and got out after making 0 runs from nine balls.

He was caught by Glenn Phillips of O’Rourke’s bowling.

2 changes for India

India has made two changes to the playing XI for the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Shubman Gill was not fully fit, and that’s why Sarfaraz got a chance to play in place of him. India also rested pacer Akash Deep, and in his place, Kuldeep Yadav is playing for India in Bengaluru. Kuldeep, who has 53 wickets to his name in 12 Tests played so far, picked up a five-wicket haul in his last Test played against England at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
