Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Pujara would hope the double hundred has probably solidified his position in staking a claim in India’s Test squad for the upcoming series against Australia.

His gritty knocks have helped India in averting danger on innumerable occasions. Needless to say, his inclusion in the squad will provide the Indian batting line-up an added strength in dealing with the lethal Aussie pacers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra recently shared his views on Pujara. Speaking in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that currently there is no defensive batter in the Indian team. “Will India consider him for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy? The series before the last one was Pujara’s series. However, last time as well, everyone forgets that while breaking Gabba’s pride his entire body had turned blue by continuously getting hit by balls,” Aakash Chopra said.

He went on to add, “So there to Pujara was there and you don’t see a defensive batter in this entire team. Is India still thinking? I am not sure they are but should they?”

Cheteshwar Pujara scored his 25th Ranji Trophy hundred against Chhattisgarh. He needed 197 balls to breach the three-digit mark. This was his 16th first-class ton. The India batter went on to carry forward his brilliance with the bat and succeeded in converting it into a big score. Pujara, eventually, managed to score his ninth Ranji Trophy double-century. He crossed the 200-run mark facing 383 deliveries.

Overall, it was Cheteshwar Pujara’s 18th first-class double hundred. With this, Pujara claimed the fourth position on the list of batters with the most first-class double tons. Currently, he is behind Don Bradman (37), Wally Hammond (36) and Patsy Hendren (22) on this elite list of players.

Batting first, Chhattisgarh declared their first innings having posted a solid total of 578 runs at the loss of seven wickets. Cheteshwar Pujara’s valiant knock of 234 helped Saurashtra in drawing the Ranji Trophy fixture.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team is currently preparing to face New Zealand in the second Test match. India did not have a fruitful start to the series having lost the opening contest to the Kiwis. India are scheduled to travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy next month.
