India B had a solid Day 2 that saw them finish at 124/0 but today, they suffered a batting collapse against India C but their captain Abhimanyu Easwaran spared them the blushes with a fighting century in the ongoing second round of Duleep Trophy 2024. On the other hand, the Shreyas Iyer-led India D have been set a mammoth target of 488 runs to chase by India A thanks to centuries from opener Pratham Singh and Tilak Varma.

Here’s a look at the hits and misses from Day 3
A Batting Collapse
Resuming on their overnight score of 124/0, India B barely added five runs to their total before Anshul Kamboj landed the first blow in N Jagadeesan who was removed for 70 off 137. That dismissal sparked a batting collapse with the likes of Sarfaraz Khan (16), Musheer Khan (6), Rinku Singh (6) and Nitish Reddy (2) departing cheaply in quick succession leaving their captain pick up the pieces.
Easwaran Holds The Fort
With wickets tumbling at one end, Easwaran remained rock solid and completed his century. He stitched little partnerships with the lower order to keep the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the day’s play, the opener was unbeaten on 143 off 262 and has Rahul Chahar for company who has scored 18 off 31. India B are 309/7 in 101 overs and trail India B by 216 runs.
Kamboj Picks up a Five-for
Against a strong batting line-up of India B, right-arm pacer Kamboj held his own and took a five-wicket haul that comprised the scalps of Jagadeesan, Sarfaraz, Musheer, Rinku and Nitish in 23.5 overs.
Paratham, Tilak Sparkle for India A
Leaving behind their failures of the first innings, the India A duo of Pratham and Tilak bounced back in style, hitting century apiece. Pratham made 122 off 189 with the help of 12 fours and a six while Tilak an unbeaten 111 off 193 hitting nine fours. Shashwat Rawat hit a brisk half-century as India A declared their second innings at 380/3 in 98 overs to set India D 488 to win.
Shreyas Delays Arrival, Promotion for Bhui
India D captain Shreyas Iyer didn’t walk out to bat at no.3 despite his team losing opener Atharva Taide for a five-ball duck. Iyer had himself registered a duck in the first innings as India D were skittled for 183 in response to India A’s first innings total of 290-all out.
Instead, Ricky Bhui, who batted at no.6, was given a promotion and he responded with an attacking innings of 44 not out off just 52 deliveries. The move thus far has paid dividends for India D as they closed the day at 62/1 in 19 overs and need 426 runs more to win with a day’s play remaining.
