Ex-India Wicketkeeper Feels Akash Deep Is Confirmed Selection For Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The Indian men's cricket team will travel to Australia next month to take part in a five-match Test series that is set to start on November 22 in Perth.

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik feels Bengal pacer Akash Deep, who made his Test debut for India against England in Ranchi on February 23, is a confirmed selection for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. The 27-year-old right-arm pacer played in both of the matches of the recently concluded India-Bangladesh Test series and impressed with his bowling performance. He picked up two wickets in the series opener played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and accounted for the dismissal of three (2+1) Bangladeshi batters in the second innings.

Impressed by Akash’s super show with the ball, Karthik, who has shared the dressing room with him in the IPL during his playing days for RCB, says that he (Akash) has been brilliant and will definitely be picked in India’s team for the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“He has been brilliant; he will definitely be on that flight to Australia, 100%. Unless he gets an injury, otherwise I see no reason why he won’t be part of that team,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz’s HeyCB with DK show when asked about Akash’s chances of playing in the India-Australia Test series.

The Indian men’s cricket team, which sits at No. 1 position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table, will travel to Australia next month to take part in a five-match Test series that starts on November 22 in Perth. Adelaide Oval will host the pink ball day-night Test from December 6 to 10, and the third match is scheduled to take place at Gabba in Brisbane from December 14 to 18.

The Boxing Day Test will be played in Melbourne, and the New Year Test is scheduled to take place in Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7.

India has won the last two editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played on Australian soil, and under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the Indian team would like to complete the hat-trick of series win this time around.

Before the Test tour of Australia, India will face New Zealand in a three-match Test series. The first Test between India and New Zealand will be played in Bengaluru, and the next two matches are scheduled to take place in Pune and Mumbai. If India manages to win at least four of the remaining eight matches, it will all but confirm its place in the WTC 2025 final.
