IND vs AFG 2024: Virat Kohli Registers Golden Duck For First Time in His T20I Career
Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson both were out for a first-ball duck with Fareed Ahmad getting rid of them inside the first five overs.

India star Virat Kohli registered the first ever golden duck of his T20I career in the third match of the ongoing series against Afghanistan. Overall, this is the fifth time in T20Is that Kohli has failed to score a single run in an innings.

Having walked in to bat after the dismissal of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kohli received a rousing reception from the crowd assembled at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home venue of his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.

However, the fans were left disappointed with Kohli being undone by the bounce from fast bowler Fareed Ahmad as he ended up hitting it tamely towards mid-off for a simple catch to Ibrahim Zadran.

The 35-year-old made his T20I return in the ongoing series having not played in the format for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Had Kohli scored six runs in the innings, he would have become the first ever India batter to score 12,000 runs in T20s.

Sanju Samson, playing his first match of the series, also recorded a golden duck and fell to the same bowler Fareed. This is the second time the wicketkeeper-batter has failed to open his account in a T20I.

Fareed’s triple-strike left India reeling as the hosts lost Jaiswal, Kohli, Shivam Dube and Samson inside the first five overs for just 22 runs.

India have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and they made three changes to their playing XI from the last game.

Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Jitesh Sharma were benched while Samson, Kuldeep Yadav and Avesh Khan were brought in as their replacements.

Afghanistan made four changes to their playing XI.

They benched Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Noor Ahmad while bringing Sharafuddin Ashraf, Qais Ahmed, Mohamamd Saleem Saifi and Fareed Ahmad Malik.

India won the first match by six wickets in Mohali and then won the second game by the same margin.
