Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal raced to his century in the second innings of the third Test at Rajkot against England on Saturday in style as he brought up the triple-digit score with a brilliant boundary through the offside.
The hosts managed to bundle out England for 319 runs on Day 3 of the Test as Mohammed Siraj starred with 4 wickets for the home side, who earned a 126 runs lead ahead of their second innings.
The English side lost eight wickets on Saturday beginning with the wicket of Joe Root, who was sent back to the hut by star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Jonny Bairstow followed his teammate at the dugout shortly after as he was sent back for a duck by spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who trapped the Englishman plumb in front of the wickets.
Ben Duckett, who made a 153-run contribution was next to go as he fell prey to Yadav before England skipper Ben Stokes was scalped by hometown hero Ravindra Jadeja.
Siraj returned to the crease as he dismissed Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed and James Anderson cheaply as he cleaned out the English tail, while Jadeja dismissed Tom Hartley cheaply.
India opened the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal hoping to recreate their first innings score, but the captain was dismissed for 19 runs by Root before Jaiswal and Shubman Gill went on to steady the Indian innings.
While Jaiswal reached the triple-digit mark, Gill supported him ably racing to his fifty, which he brought up in style with a magnificent six on the leg side.
Team India won the toss and opted to have a bat first in the game as they put up a mighty score of 445 runs thanks to tons from the skipper Rohit and star all-rounder Jadeja, who put up 131 runs and 110 runs in the first innings to give the hosts a strong start in the third of the five-match Test series. Debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel chipped in with solid contributions of 62 runs and 46 runs as they helped the nation’s cause.
