Injured Kagiso Rabada Returns Home From IPL 2024 With Soft Tissue Infection
Cricket South Africa says the injury is unlikely to impact Kagiso Rabada's preparation for the T20 World Cup.

South Africa have suffered an injury scare with just over three weeks remaining for the 2024 T20 World Cup as fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has suffered a  lower limb soft tissue infection prematurely ending his IPL season.

Rabada represented Punjab Kings in IPL 2024, taking 11 wickets in as many matches at an economy of 8.85 and has left for South Africa on Sunday evening.

However, his departure will not have any impact on PBKS’ campaign as they have have already been eliminated from the playoffs race with two matches remaining. They face Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday and will play their last league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 19.

“The 28-year-old consulted a specialist on arrival in South Africa and is being closely monitored by the Cricket South Africa medical team,” said Cricket South Africa (CSA) in a statement.

CSA also said that the injury is unlikely to impact Rabada’s preparation for the T20 World Cup in the Americas next month.

“His preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA is not expected to be affected,” CSA added.

South Africa will open their T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in New York on June 3.
