Dhruv Jurel brought out his trademark salute celebration after making an unbeaten 52 off 34 balls and along with Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 33-ball 71, helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets in their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.

“I always play for my papa, I did so during the Test match as well (against England). He was then in the army, he was there today and that was for him,” Jurel said after the win.

Dhruv Jurel said that he was calmed down by Samson after hitting a few stray shots.

“I started well, but my shots went straight to the fielders. Sanju then told me to calm down, don’t go too hard, take my time and then I got 20 runs in an over and that got me going,” he said.

On his part, the young Jurel finally discovered his mojo to put behind a barren run, smacking five fours and two sixes.

On being asked about batting in the middle orders, Jurel said: “I just wanted to finish the match whenever I got a chance. It’s always a blessing and a curse, I just wanted to stay until the end and finish the game for my team.”

“I will have to practice, in the batting PP, you have just two fielders outside the ring, during the middle overs, you’ll need to find the gaps and get the big hits going as there are 5 fielders in the deep, that’s what I was looking at,” he added.
