Ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that he is waiting for a dinner invite from Cheteshwar Pujara at his home during the third Test match between India and England. Pujara, who plays for Saurashtra in domestic cricket, has been out of the Indian team since the World Test Championship Final last year.
News18 CricketNext has reported that the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) will felicitate both Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara for their contributions to Indian cricket ahead of the third Test match.
Pujara is currently playing a Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra against Jaipur as he scored a fine century on Day 1 of the ongoing clash.
The talismanic batter hit nine shots to the fence during his 230-ball 110. It was his 62nd hundred in first-class cricket.
India have announced the squad for last three Tests on Saturday but Pujara failed to make the cut in the team despite scoring a couple of centuries in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
Ashwin suggested that he is waiting for a dinner invitation from Pujara as the Indian players will reunite in the next few days in Rajot for the third Test against England.
“The Indian players have gone back home and will be reuniting for the next Test match in Rajkot. Rajkot is the home of Cheteshwar Pujara. A certified Indian legend who recently concluded his 100 Test matches. We’ll be playing in his place. Ravindra Jadeja, Saurashtra. The Rajkot stadium is his home ground, but he is from Jamnagar. Let’s wait and watch if Cheteshwar Pujara invites everyone to his home for dinner,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) stadium in Rajkot will be renamed after former first-class cricketer and veteran administrator Niranjan Shah on the eve of the third India-England Test which gets underway on February 15.
The ceremony is planned for the evening of February 14 and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah will unveil the new name – Niranjan Shah Stadium.
Ashwin will look to complete 500 Test wickets in the third Test in Rajkot as he is just one wicket away from completing the massive milestone.
