'Margin Between Winning and Losing is Very Small': Rishabh Pant Shows Positive Signs of Belief Ahead of India's BGT Title Defence
Rishabh Pant believes that the margin between winning and losing is so small, possibly being a message of intent against Australia for the BGT trophy later this year.

As Rishabh Pant makes his return to red-ball cricket, the Indian wicketkeeping star will also have the Border-Gavaskar series coming up later this year on the back of his head. India’s 2021 hero Down Under will be looking forward to the Australian challenge in what will hopefully be a riveting contest between two top sides.

The 26-year-old has already made his return to white-ball action, playing his part during India’s successful T20 World Cup 2024 campaign held in the West Indies and the United States of America.

The final stage of his comeback is the historic five-day format where Pant delivered the most during pressure situations, taking on the top-echelon of bowlers and attacking them with no fear.

Speaking regarding his mindset when representing the country, “I believe the pressure will always be there because, in international cricket, you can’t take any series lightly,” Pant said to JioCinema.

“The margin between winning and losing is very small, and nowadays, the gap between international teams isn’t much either. However, we have to give our hundred per cent regardless, and that mindset has worked well for me so far,” he added.

The fact that Pant believes the margin for error is very small could be a sign of belief that he aims to recreate his 2021 heroics to help India defend the Border-Gavaskar trophy later this year.

Should Pant get the call-up, it is clear that he would be looking to have a go at his Australian rivals and take them on with his newfound clarity since having a second chance in cricket after his horrific accident which sidelined him for 15 months.

But before facing the Aussies, the Indian team have another Test coming up as they take on their next-door neighbours, Bangladesh in a two-match Test series which begins from September 19. This would be followed by a three-match series against New Zealand starting on October 16.

With enough game-time in the Duleep Trophy under his belt, Pant will hope to get back into run-scoring form and ensure that he gets the ticket to Australia and hopefully recreate his heroics from the past. The mighty Aussies however, would not let him do as he pleases as they will be very aware of the threat that Pant poses.

The reigning WTC champions will be prepared to take on whatever challenge lies ahead of them, making it a high-level contest between two of the best cricketing nations.
