Star Australian pacer Megan Schutt created history on Tuesday (October 8) by becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker in the Women’s T20 World Cup. The 31-year-old fast bowler achieved the feat during her team’s second match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 against New Zealand at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. She finished the match with figures of 3 wickets for 3 runs in 3.2 overs. Thanks to her super show with the ball, the six-time T20 World Cup winners dismissed White Ferns for 88 runs in 19.2 overs and went on to win the 60 runs.
Schutt had equalled legendary South African pacer Shabnim Ismail’s record of 43 wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 during Australia’s tournament opener against Sri Lanka on Saturday (October 5), and on Tuesday, she became the sole owner of the No. 1 position.
Most wickets in Women’s T20 World Cup
- Megan Schutt (Australia) – 46
- Shabnim Ismail (South Africa) – 43
- Anya Shrubsole (England) – 41
- Ellyse Perry (Australia) – 40
- Stafanie Taylor (West Indies) – 33
Schutt has 46 wickets to her name now in 26 matches. She crossed Ismail’s tally by dismissing New Zealand opener Georgia Plimmer for four runs on the second ball of the third over. She picked up her second wicket of the match on the third ball of the 12th over by removing all-rounder Amelia Kerr. Kerr top-scored for the New Zealand team by scoring 29 runs from 31 balls. She had earlier picked up four wickets in the first half of the match.
Schutt sealed a famous win over the Southern Stars over their Trans-Tasman rivals in Sharjah by taking wicket of Eden Carson on the second ball of the 20th over.

For her super show with the ball, Schutt won the Player of the Match award. The win over New Zealand helped Australia take the No. 1 position in the Group A points table, and it has also opened doors for India to qualify for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals.
Schutt’s closest competition in the list of leading wicket-takers is her teammate and star all-rounder, Ellyse Perry. Perry, who bowls medium pace, has 40 wickets to her name in 44 Women’s T20 World Cup matches played so far.
