'Physical or Mental, This is Also a Test': Shami Positive on Return for Australia Tour After 11 Month Injury Layoff - Exclusive
11 months out of action can be a challenge even for the best of athletes. But Shami embraces the challenge and looks to remain patient in his road to recovery as he remains confident of a positive result.

India’s veteran fast-bowler, Mohammed Shami is yet to play an international game since his stellar performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup. After picking up injury concerns, the pacer is eyeing a return to the national side ahead of the highly anticipated tour to Australia where the Indian unit will look to go with a full-strength squad.

11 months out of action can be a challenge even for the best of athletes. But Shami embraces the challenge and looks to remain patient in his road to recovery as he remains confident of a positive result.

“It’s difficult but this is also a test. Whether it’s physical or mental, you have to go through a test. As a player, when you are going through a serious injury, staying patient is paramount. If you can control it, positive results will follow,” said Shami in an exclusive interaction with News18.

The Australian tour will demand that the players be in the best shape possible and also be in top form as well. Shami’s return will be a massive call to take for the selectors as he has not taken part in a single game of competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup which will be a massive concern.

But Shami remains confident in his preparations and hopes to focus on his fitness prior to the tour Down Under. With a lot of chatter regarding his selection in the Australian tour, Shami remains eager to be part of the side once again as they hope to make it three series victories in Australia consecutively.

“I am 100 per cent prepared. I am trying my best to be fully fit before the tour. Plenty has been said about the tour, there’s a lot of hype around it. We do want to make three wins in a row,” he concluded.

India will play a five-match Test series against the Aussies which will begin on November 22 through to January 2025 the next year. The series will prove to be a feisty affair with both sides eager to beat the other and also ensure their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the 2024-25 season.
