Ravindra Jadeja Undergoes Scan After Hamstring Trouble, Could Miss 2nd Test: Report
India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja may have to sit out from the 2nd Test against England in Vizag due to a hamstring issue.

India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja underwent scans after hurting his hamstring during the fourth day’s play of the first Test against England in Hyderabad on Sunday. Jadeja was in discomfort after attempting a quick single off the bowling of Joe Root as he fell short to be run out on 2.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the scan report has been sent to a Mumbai institute for evaluation and extent of the 35-year-old’s injury will be known by today.

The publication, quoting a source, further reported that the injury could be hamstring pull which means at most Jadeja may end up missing the second Test in Vizag that starts from February 2.

“What we understand is that it is a hamstring pull and not tear; so he should be fine for the third Test certainly if he can’t play the second,” the source was quoted as saying.

India lost the opening Test to England and now trail 0-1 in the five-match series.

When India head coach Rahul Dravid was asked about Jadeja’s fitness, he replied, “I honestly haven’t had a chance to speak to the physio as yet. Once I get back, I’ll speak to him and see what it is about.”

Jadeja top-scored in India’s first innings, hitting 87, to help them take a lead of 190 runs. He also took five wickets in the match.

The second Test starts from February 2 in Vizag and should Jadeja miss the contest, India might turn to left-arm spinner to fill the vacant spot in the eleven as they hope to draw level in the series.

England were bowled out for 246 in their first innings after opting to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium earlier this week. India then marched ahead with 436-all out in reply.

However, Ollie Pope scored a majestic 196 in England’s second dig to set India a target of 231 but the hosts fell short by 29 runs.
