The race for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad continues to get tighter especially for the wicketkeeper-batter’s role. There are multiple claimants for that position including KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel.
Among the six though, Samson, Pant and Ishan have set the pace while Rahul is yet to hit his stride.
The selection committee will reportedly be discussion the possible candidates at the end of April meaning the hopefuls will have to show form and lay their claims in the first half of the season itself.
Pant hasn’t played international cricket since December 2022 after suffering horrific injuries in a car accident. IPL 2024 is his first competitive event since making a full recovery in quick time but he’s shown form and fitness while leading Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season.
With 194 runs from six games, Pant is DC’s top-run getter of IPL 2024 so far and has peeled off a couple of fifties too.
On Friday, he played a vital role in DC’s six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants, scoring a quick 24-ball 41, an innings that featured four fours and two sixes.

The win was DC’s second of the season but it wasn’t enough to lift them from the 9th spot in the 10-team competition. They are just a rung ahead of bottom dwellers Royal Challengers Bengaluru and will next face GT on Wednesday.
