Rohit Sharma was visibly upset following Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli’s wicket in the second innings marked a huge blow for India in the ongoing first Test against New Zealand. The Indian dressing room was devastated when Kohli was dismissed on the final delivery of the third day’s play in Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma was visibly upset as he expected both Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan to survive till the stumps. Kohli was in fine form and had already struck 70 off 102 balls. He stitched a 130-run partnership with Sarfaraz following the early dismissals of Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Virat Kohli tried to defend a delivery off Glenn Phillips and the ball brushed off the outside edge of his bat. New Zealand captain Tom Latham completed an easy catch behind the stumps, silencing the Bengaluru crowd. With Kohli returning back to the dressing room, skipper Rohit Sharma was captured shaking his head in disappointment.

Following the end of Day 3, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra admitted that Virat Kohli’s wicket brought some respite to the visitors. According to him, the late dismissal of Kohli gave the Kiwi bowling unit a huge confidence boost.

“It’s pretty hard to crystal-ball gaze into the future. It’s a quality batting line-up on a wicket that’s not doing too much, so it’s important for us to hold our lines and lengths and do that for long periods. But I think Kohli’s wicket at the end was very important,” Rachin Ravindra told reporters during the post-day press meet, as per Hindustan Times.

Virat Kohli completed his 9,000 Test runs on Day 3 in Bengaluru. He reached the milestone after scoring 53 against New Zealand. Kohli needed 197 innings to achieve the feat. He is the fourth as well as the slowest Indian batter to aggregate 9,000 runs in the longest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma also looked promising in the second innings. He registered a brilliant half-century but was unable to convert it to a big score. Rohit tried a defensive shot off Ajaz Patel’s delivery. The Indian captain was baffled by the bounce and the ball crashed onto the stumps, sneaking through the gap between his bat and pad.

Sarfaraz Khan has emerged as the best performer with the bat for India. He hit his maiden Test hundred in the first session on the penultimate day’s play.
