Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli looked in sublime form as he produced a match-winning knock against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday. In the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kohli managed just 21 runs off 20 balls while the Royal Challengers lost the game by mere 4 runs. However, on Monday, Kohli returned with a scintillating knock of 77 off 49 against Punjab Kings.

Virat Kohli missed the five-match Test series against England for the birth of his second child. Before IPL 2024, Virat last played in competitive cricket in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan held in January.
On Monday, Virat Kohli scored his 100th half-century in T20 cricket and became the first Indian and the third player overall to have achieved this feat. West Indies great Chris Gayle is on the top of the list with 110 fifty-plus scores. Australia opening batter David Warner comes next with 109 fifty-plus scores.
Virat Kohli was in sublime form against the Shikhar Dhawan-led side. While chasing a target of 177 runs, the Faf Du Plessis-led side suffered a batting collapse but Kohli’s match-winning knock helped them cross the line. After his dismissal, the team suffered another collapse but Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror ensured RCB a win of four wickets.
Virat Kohli also achieved a sensational feat as he took his 173rd catch to occupy the top spot on the list of Indian players with the most catches in T20s. Kohli completed the catch of PBKS batter Jonny Bairstow as his milestone dismissal. Kohli overtook former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Suresh Raina’s tally to set the new record.
Kohli’s power-packed innings of 77 comprised 11 fours and two sixes. Kohli recorded a strike rate of 157 against PBKS. Having scored 12,092 runs after playing 378 T20 matches, at an average of 41.26.
