Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the only three franchises to have won multiple IPL titles in the history of the competition. They won the trophy in 2012 and 2014, both under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.
Even though they have not tasted glory for nearly a decade now, the fans greet and treat the players of the franchise with the same love as ever. They turn out in huge numbers to showcase their support and selfless “bhalobasha” (love) for their home team.
The official Instagram handle of the Kolkata-based franchise recently shared a video in which KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer and his deputy Nitish Rana can be heard talking about the “ineffable” support they have received from fans ever since the team roped them in.

“It’s an electrifying atmosphere when you step into the stadium (Eden Gardens),” Iyer said.
Talking about their experience during the 2023 World Cup, Iyer said, “We had been here during the World Cup. And then when we saw the crowd, it was just magnificent to see the flow of energy going from East to West, North to South. The whole experience is unbelievable, or what you call ineffable. You can’t express it in words.”
On being asked on a jovial note, to elaborate on the word “ineffable”, Rana said, “I don’t know, sir, but yes, this is true that we get a lot of love here [in Kolkata].”
“I have been playing here for seven years now and the love that the people of Kolkata have showered on us as KKR players, the support that the management and people gave was unmatchable and was also important for me at the time,” Rana added.

KKR has had an excellent start to the ongoing season of the IPL, winning five games and losing twice.
In their next game, KKR will face Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens on Friday.
They got the better of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a nerve-wracking contest previously, winning the contest by just one run.
