The hosts won the toss and opted to bat as England took the field on the opening day. Pakistan opened the innings with Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub.
Leach picked up the scalp of Shafique for a cheap 7 runs, before doubling down on his wicket-tally with the dismissal of skipper Shan Masood for a mere 3 runs.
Ayub stitched a 149-run stand alongside Kamran Ghulam, before the former was scalped by Matthew Potts after adding 77 runs off 160 deliveries.
Ghulam anchored the innings and added a half-century and stood unbeaten at 75 during tea.
England clinched the lead early in the series with an astounding triumph against the hosts in the opening Test, which the Three Lions sealed by an innings and 47 runs to win.
Pakistan managed to make a total of 556 runs thanks to tons from Masood, Shafique and Salman Ali Agha, but England hit back with a Harry Brook triple-century and a double-ton from Root to post a total of 827 runs before deciding to declare.
England bundled out the Pakistan second innings for a paltry total of 220 runs as Leach starred with a four-wicket-haul in the second inning to add to his three-fer in the first innings.
