'Viratball to Counter Bazball': India Legend on How India Can Beat England in Five-Test Series
England's much-talked about ultra-aggressive approach in Test cricket faces a stern challenge in India.

England will be in India for a five-match Test series starting next week in Hyderabad and the Ben Stokes-led side is gearing up for the challenge in Abu Dhabi with an extended camp.

There’s a plenty of buzz around England Test team considering their aggressive brand of cricket which has been labelled ‘Bazball’ and a tactic that has triggered a remarkable turnaround in their fortunes since the appointment of Stokes as captain and Brendon McCullum as the head coach.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar picked out Virat Kohli as the player who can help India counter England’s tactics in the upcoming series.

“The way he’s (Virat Kohli) been batting, his movement looks good. With the form that he’s in, we have Viratball to counter Bazball,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Kohli has been in sublime form across formats and was impressive on the tour of South Africa as well.

Kohli will eyeing a milestone during the series as he’s just 112 runs away from completing 9,000 runs in Test cricket. So far, the batting superstar has belted 30 centuries and 29 half-centuries in 113 Tests.

“Yeah, conversion means having more hundreds than fifties. With Kohli, he has as a similar amount of hundreds and fifties, that means he has a good conversion rate,” Gavaskar said.

With India expected to dish out spin-friendly conditions, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel will be expected to present a big challenge to England batters who have adopted a no-holds barred approach with their batting.

“England have adopted a new approach in Test cricket in the last 1-2 years. It’s an aggressive approach where batters look to attack. They just want to play attacking cricket no matter the situation. It’ll be interesting to see if this approach works against the spinners of India,” Gavaskar said.

The first Test starts from January 25.
