'Was a Bit Nervous, But Backed Myself': DC's Marizanne Kapp on Her Match-winning Spell Against RCB
South African all-rounder, Marizanne Kapp spoke on her all-round performance against RCB to give DC their second win of the season.

The Delhi Capitals handed the home-town favourites, the Royal Challengers Bangalore their first defeat of the season. At the helm of the late comeback by the visitors was none other than the South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp who delivered a match-winning performance.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony after being awarded the Player of the Match award, Kapp revealed that she was nervous bowling in the batting-friendly M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The conditions were favourable for the batters as they went on to register a total of 19 sixes, which is a new record in WPL history.

The all-rounder said,” Tonight, I was a bit nervous, thinking that you’ll have to bowl on this wicket. Smriti was hitting the ball well, scoring in all areas and I just backed myself.”

She had given the Capitals the game-changing moment by getting the wicket of Smriti Mandhana who looked to be unstoppable. She picked up the wicket with a slower delivery, taking the batter off-guard as the ball went crashing onto the stumps.

Kapp had also contributed with the bat earlier in the first innings where she led the late late surge. She scored a quick 32 off 16 deliveries after which Sophie Devine dismissed her.

Speaking on the conditions while bowling, she revealed that bowling pace on the wicket in Bengaluru was asking to be hit which prompted her to use her variations and pull her lengths back on the odd delivery which worked for her.

She said,” Bowling pace on that wicket made it sit up to be smacked, so we had to go short and use more variations.”

The Delhi Capitals now sit at the top of the table with four points along with the Royal Challengers Bangalore but their superior net run-rate gets the jump over the side led by Smriti Mandhana.

The South African is currently second in the wicket-taking charts with a tally of six wickets in the three games played at an average of just 12. She stands one wicket away from the leader, Amelia Kerr who is at 7.

They will next face off against the Gujarat Giants in the tenth fixture of the tournament as the side will look to keep up their winning momentum and charge ahead for their maiden title.
