Star India batter KL Rahul will be back in action in the 50-over format for the first time in 2024 when India take on Sri Lanka in a 3-match ODI series next month. The Karnataka batter may not have been in India’s T20I scheme of things but he remains a crucial cog in the OD set-up. Before flying to the island nation with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Rahul has started sweating it out in the nets.
Rahul on Wednesday shared a video in which he could be smashing the bowlers in a net session. In a 14-second video, the Indian batter was seen pulling a bouncer with authority before smashing the bowler over the top of his head with a straight bat.
“Good shot, Bhaiyaa,” could be heard in the background as Rahul smashes the balls out of the park.

Rahul’s reunion with Gambhir
The upcoming Sri Lanka tour will also mark the reunion of KL Rahul and Gautam Gambhir. They have worked together previously in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the Lucknow Super Giants camp until last year when Gambhir was the mentor. Earlier this year, the former India opener parted ways with the Lucknow-based franchise and returned to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as part of the coaching staff.
‘Rahul need to hit the reset button’
Rahul may have been added to the ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka but is likely to serve as a back-up for Rishabh Pant. The latter will be making his comeback in the 50-over format after recovering from the injuries he suffered in the horrific car crash in 2022.
Addressing the media on Monday in Mumbai, Agarkar explained that the selectors want to ease Pant into every format without burdening him while Rahul has been advised to hit the reset button.
“Rishabh has been out for a long time. So we want to bring him back without burdening him. For someone who has come back after a long time, you need to bring them back in the scheme of things gradually. KL, one of the feedbacks he has got is ‘you’ve got to hit the reset button’,” Agarkar had said.
