We have seen state and central governments providing jobs to sports personnel who have brought glory to the country. The Bihar government also announced a scheme named Medal Lao Aur Naukri Pao Yojna to provide jobs to sportspersons who win medals for the country and the state. In one such development, Sultana Bano, a resident of Bhojpur, Bihar was recently offered a job in a government office for her achievement in Rugby.
Sultana was selected to represent Bihar at the national level after her impressive performance in state competitions. The Bihar team won the silver medal at the National Senior Women’s Rugby Championship held in Pune, Maharashtra. In the national championship, Bihar defeated West Bengal by a scoreline of 12-5 in the semi-final match. Sultana alone scored 5 points for her team in the match. In the final, the Bihar team went down to Odisha by a scoreline of 17-5. The team fought hard to secure the silver medal.
The girl from Bihar has reportedly secured a job at the secretariat after her achievement in the national competition. Her father’s name is Manzoor Alam and is a resident of Bhojpur. The district secretary and coach of the Bhojpur team expressed his happiness stating that Sultana has been consistently performing well. He added that the whole rugby community of the district is happy with her achievement.
Sultana previously took part in various national tournaments securing multiple medals. She started her tally by winning a bronze medal at the 36th National Games. She later won a gold medal in the U18 National competition.
For her achievement and winning a medal for Bihar on the national stage, the state government offer her a job at a government office. Sultaka expressed her happiness and also attributed her success to her family and coaches who helped her to reach this level. She said, “Those who used to taunt me are the ones who are praising me today.” Sultana added that now the villagers encourage the girls to take sports as a profession and be successful in it.
