Nalanda Open University in Bihar’s Patna has received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university is now authorised to offer admissions for 50 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses.

According to Vice Chancellor Professor Sanjay Kumar, the admission process will commence after Durga Puja, starting from October 15, 2024.

Professor Sanjay Kumar said that the university had to make significant efforts to obtain approval.

The approval letter was received on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, marking the end of a two-year wait. He highlighted that the university has been providing education at low fees for underprivileged students in Bihar, and many have high expectations from this development.

The Vice-Chancellor further noted that zero sessions took place last year, and no admission was done due to the lack of NAAC recognition. However, in January 2024, the university was awarded a C grade by NAAC. Since then, the university has been consistently reaching out to UGC to to restart the enrollment process.

This year, Nalanda Open University will offer admissions for a total of 59 programmes. These include a four-year undergraduate programme in 20 subjects and post graduation in 30 subjects, in which 19 are from the science stream.

Admissions will be conducted both online and offline.

The Vice Chancellor also mentioned that the university is considering opening centres in Patna for offline applications, with a decision on this to be finalised soon.
