Cracking the JEE or the Joint Entrance Examination is one of the toughest jobs in the world. To confirm a seat at a prestigious institution like the IIT, the students have to score well in the exam, among a crowd of lakhs of aspirants. Keeping that in mind, here is the story of a young man from Chandigarh, who secured the number one rank in JEE Advanced 2017.
That young man is named Sarvesh Mehtani, who is a resident of Panchkula, in Chandigarh. It was not an easy path towards success for someone like Sarvesh, who loved spending time on social media, like any other youth. He distanced himself from such distractions when it came to the JEE exam. In an earlier interview, after he cracked the JEE, Sarvesh recalled how he watched cartoons to relax himself from the pressure of the examination.
Sarvesh Mehtani is the son of Parvesh, an employee in the income tax department. His mother, Raj Bala, works in the industrial department of the Haryana Government. In the 10th board examination standard, he had scored a CGPA of 10 and in his 12th, he got 95.4 per cent marks in the exams. The reports add that he dedicated around five to six hours each day to his studies and on holidays, the duration increased to eight to ten hours.
He secured the top position in the JEE Advanced exam, with a score of 339 in 2017, as per the reports. In 2021, he graduated with a BTech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay.
According to Sarvesh’s LinkedIn profile, he is currently employed as a Quantitative Trader, developing high-frequency strategies for trading financial derivatives. He is a recipient of numerous awards like the Aditya Birla Fellowship, awarded by the Aditya Birla Group and the INCHO (Indian National Chemistry Olympiad Awardee), given by Homie Bhaba Centre for Science Education.
