In a bid to provide more opportunities to the people seeking employment in the Uttar Pradesh police force, the state government has announced a three-year age relaxation for candidates. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued an order directing officials to initiate the process. Notably, the new process will provide age relaxation for candidates applying for 60,244 vacancies for police constables.
CM Adityanath wrote on X, “Your government is fully committed to the interests of the youth and their bright future. In the ongoing recruitment process for the position of Reserve Civil Police in UP Police, it has been decided to grant a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for all categories of candidates”.
Meanwhile, an official statement was also released by the CM’s office on Tuesday. It read, “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the Principal Secretary (Home Department) to give three years relaxation in the age limit of candidates of all categories in the police recruitment this time.”
Earlier this month, on December 23, the recruitment notification was published in which the minimum age for candidates was fixed to be 18 years whereas the maximum age limit was 22 years to apply for the constable vacancies.
This prompted candidates and several political leaders from the ruling BJP and the Opposition to demand a relaxation in the upper age limit. Citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the last two years, age relaxation was sought to help many candidates waiting for such opportunities.
The application process began on December 27 and candidates will be allowed to submit their forms until January 16. Of the 60,244 vacancies rolled out this year, 24,102 are unreserved, 6,024 are reserved for economically weaker sections whereas 16,262 and 12,650 are for Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Castes respectively. Additionally, 1,204 vacancies are for Scheduled Tribes. Meanwhile, women will be hired for 20 per cent of the total vacancies.
