NEET UG Paper Leak: Court Grants Bail To Accused After Defence Argues Case Of Mistaken Identity
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has granted bail to Gangadhar Gunde, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 26 in connection to the NEET paper leak case in Maharashtra’s Latur. The case was initially registered by the Latur police at Shivaji Nagar police station but was later taken over by the CBI. The defence advocate Kailash More claimed CBI had arrested Gangadhar Gunde due to mistaken identity. More added that he was not the person the agency was looking for.
Pune Traffic Police Sends Notice To IAS Officer Puja Khedkar Over Beacon Use
The central government has constituted a one-member committee to investigate the ongoing controversy surrounding 2022-batch probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar’s alleged “misuse of power.” The committee, chaired by a senior Additional Secretary-level officer, has been tasked with probing allegations related to fake certificates and scrutiny at the time of her interview. Meanwhile, the IAS Academy will additionally look into her conduct during probation. The committee has been instructed to submit the investigation report in two weeks.
Global Forecasters Predict Delayed Emergence of La Niña
With the scorching days of summer gradually fading away, global forecasters have predicted a delay in the onset of La Niña, a naturally recurring ocean phenomenon. It is said that La Niña influences weather across countries, including the southwest monsoon over India. As per the US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the temperatures over the equatorial Pacific Ocean are mostly near average presently, which means it is still in the ‘ENSO-neutral’ phase. There is a 70 per cent chance that it may develop during the August–October period and then continue through the winter.
India, Russia To Boost Bilateral Trade by 2030
India and Russia decided to boost bilateral trade to over USD 100 billion by 2030, using national currencies for trade, reviving investments, and increasing cooperation in sectors ranging from agriculture to energy and infrastructure. Following the 22nd Annual Bilateral Summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Moscow, the two sides in a joint statement reiterated their commitment to developing a strategic partnership. They also vowed to give additional impetus to strengthening bilateral interaction by promoting Russia-India economic cooperation and trade.
Hathras Stampede Case
Days after the Hathras stampede mishap at a religious event of self-styled godman Narayan Sakar Hari, a special investigation team (SIT) said that the incident happened due to overcrowding and a failure of the organisers and the local administration. Over 120 people died in the stamped at Hathras’ Phulrai village on July 2. The UP government suspended six police and administrative officials, including the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), circle officer (CO), and inspector, in its first action over the tragedy. The SIT did not rule out the possibility of a conspiracy and suggested an in-depth investigation.
