Manchester: Alex Ferguson has admitted his 25 years in charge of Manchester United have been a "fairy tale" and he hopes to continue managing the Red Devils for a good while yet.

The Scot took charge at Old Trafford in 1986 and will celebrate his anniversary on Saturday in United's clash with Sunderland. In his time at the club he has won 12 Premier League titles, five FA cups and two Champions League trophies.

He told reporters: "It's been a fairy tale and I will continue as long as I feel healthy enough to do it."

"It has been a really fantastic spell for me."

As the Scot reflected on reign at Old Trafford, he admits he is privileged to have managed some of the club's all-time greats.

"I've been fortunate to have had some of the best players in the game. Players like Bryan Robson, Norman Whiteside, through to Mark Hughes, Roy Keane and Eric Catona."

"It's hard to think I had control of those great players for so long, right through to today's foreign players."

Ferguson, though, is fully focused on the game against the Black Cats but will head to the game without striker Michael Owen, who was injured in the win over Otelul Galati on Wednesday.

He added: "Michael injured his thigh when he made the run across the front post for the first goal."

"It's a killer for him. He started the season well, he's been training terrifically. His two performances in the League Cup have been great."

"He made the goal last night, no doubt about that. I hope he's not out for too long. We've assessed him this morning, he's had a scan but we don't have any results from that yet."
