Milan: AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed that negotiations with Santos over the sale of Robinho have broken down and that the player is "delighted" to be staying where he is, according to espnfc.com.
Despite hinting that a deal could still be struck with Santos, Galliani now accepts that Robinho will remain with the Rossoneri - even though Milan now have a wealth of attacking players on their books.
Santos abandoned their chase of the 29-year-old on Thursday after the striker's personal terms were too difficult to meet.
"Robinho will wear Milan's shirt once again next season," Galliani announced at the unveiling of his club's new black and red striped kit for 2013-14. "He never asked to be sold, but only to return home to Santos. No financial agreement was reached so Robinho is delighted to be staying with us."
Keeping Robinho means Milan have now dropped their interest in Fiorentina forward Adem Ljajic while Juventus' Alessandro Matri is no longer regarded as a target either.
"At this point, that proposition is closed," Galliani added. "I regard our attacking midfielders as forwards and that means we have seven players for those positions. We are full, both in terms of the quality and the numbers."
That number is nevertheless likely to swell to eight in the winter window when Keisuke Honda joins on a free transfer from CSKA Moscow. "We hope Honda will join us in January," Galliani said. "It's not planned on signing him now."
However, Kevin-Prince Boateng would not make way for the Japanese attacking midfielder, according to Galliani, who says the Ghanaian has "never asked to leave, nor are there any negotiations underway to sell him".
