New Delhi: After Richard Gadze’s second-half goal helped Delhi Dynamos to a 1-1 draw against Atletico de Kolkata on Saturday, their marquee player-coach Roberto Carlos said that his team deserved to win based on team's second-half performance.
"We deserved to win based on our second-half performance. We created more chances and were the better side," he said.
Carlos added that now as the tournament is progressing towards its business end, the competition is getting stiffer and difficult.
"It is getting more and more difficult to get results. So a point is good for us. Happy with the team's overall performance," he told reporters after the match.
Carlos also played down his post-match scuffle with Atletico de Kolkata midfielder Valdo and said that it was nothing, and the scuffle happened because of an incident between them 12 years ago.
"I know him for a very long time. He was with me at Real Madrid. He developed with me there. The scuffle was because of an incident that happened between us 12 years ago," he said.
"He was with Osasuna at that time and we were involved in an incident in a match. I have apologised to him about it, but he still remembers it. But I don't have any hard feelings for him. He is a great guy and a good friend. I wish him well."
Carlos also said that his team-mate and French international football star Florent Malouda was 'concerned' after the terrorist attack in Paris. "Malouda was concerned when he heard the news but once the game started, he focussed on the match," Carlos said.
This is Delhi's third consecutive 1-1 draw and they remain third in the points table. ATK, on the other hand, will also remain fourth - trailing Delhi by just one point.
ATK coach Antonio Habas felt that the draw was a fair result for both teams and said that his team had the better chances in the first half.
"It is impossible to play in the same rhythm for 90 minutes. In the first half we could have scored several times but did only once. We deserved a point. In the end, a draw is a fair result," said Habas.
Habas also pointed out that his team was hampered by several injury problems in the first half of the tournament. "Helder Postiga has returned with an injury. He will need a week to attain full fitness. We now have four home games. Aim to get maximum points from them," he said.
