The Saudi Pro League’s hunt for premier talent continues as recent reports state that Manchester City star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is once again being targeted for a potential move in the summer.

It has been reported that the Saudi Investment Fund (PIF) has renewed their interest in the Belgian superstar, following an initial bid in October 2023, when the Cristiano Ronaldo-led Al Nassr was in talks of securing De Bruyne’s services for a reported fee of around 50 million euros.

According to football journalist Rudy Galetti, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), who are known for their involvement in high-profile football acquisitions,  have reportedly gotten back in touch with the player, and they view him as a primary target for next summer.

De Bruyne’s season has been one marred with injury, picking up a muscle injury in Manchester City’s PL season opener against Bournemouth. Pep Guardiola’s worst fears became reality as the Belgian was in need of surgery for the same, sidelining the talisman playmaker for most of the season so far.

But, the Belgian was recently spotted at training with his City teammates and was included in the squad for the treble-winners’ Premier League clash against Sheffield United on December 30.

De Bruyne’s current contract with City expires in 2025, which means that he could consider evaluating his options in the summer of 2024 when only one year will be left in his existing deal. And with the midfielder’s age being a cause of concern for some, the possibility of De Bruyne being intrigued by a move away might not be too far-fetched.

Additionally, Man City have brought in midfield reinforcements like Kovacic and Matheus Nunes. Phil Foden is also now playing in midfield in a similar role to KDB. Perhaps, he will alter his previous stance regarding a move to the SPL.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Kevin De Bruyne’s potential move to the Saudi Pro League adds an intriguing layer to the football landscape.
