Disappointed with Antony’s performance, Manchester United are understood to have found a replacement for the Brazilian international. A report published by The Sun has claimed that the Premier League side have chosen Japanese wonder kid Takefusa Kubo as Antony’s potential replacement. Spanish outfit Real Sociedad signed the Japanese forward on a five-year contract from Real Madrid in July last year. The Sun report went on to claim that Real Sociedad can accept a fee in the region of £43 million for the 22-year-old who prefers playing on the right but can also be deployed as a number 10. The report suggests that Manchester United scouts have been present in several matches, including Real Sociedad’s goalless draw with Real Betis where Kubo was named Player of the Match, since the start of the new season.
The report states that Manchester United are understood to continue to monitor Takeufusa Kubo’s progress at the club. In a bid to complete the deal, Manchester United can offer Antony on loan to Real Sociedad as part of the possible transfer to bring Kubo to Old Trafford.
Having joined Real Sociedad last year, Takeufusa Kubo has so far netted 15 goals in 68 matches across all competitions for the La Liga side. Before returning to Mallorca last season. Kubo was sent out on loan to other Spanish sides like Villarreal and Getafe as well.
In this season’s Spanish domestic league, Kubo has registered six goals and three assists so far. Real Sociedad currently claim the sixth spot on the La Liga points table.
Dubbed as a promising attacker, Kubo left Real Madrid after several loan spells, including last season when he represented another Spanish club Mallorca. Kubo’s talent has already been spotted by many and legendary Spanish footballer Andres Iniesta had once lavished immense praise on the Japanese international.
“I know Kubo from having payed against him last season. We’re talking about a player with immense talent and a great future ahead of him. He is one of the most gifted players in the world right now and I’m not surprised he’s with a big club,” Iniesta said in 2019.
In the international circuit, Takefusa Kubo has represented Japan 29 times. Kubo has three goals under his belt in international football.
