Modric is reportedly frustrated with having to play as a backup option to better suit the team. The 38-year-old signed a one-year extension with Real Madrid last summer but has only started 10 out of the 19 La Liga games.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will reportedly not extend his contract with the club at the end of the season. After months of speculation about the Croatian wizard, a report from Relevo has now emerged to reinforce that Modric will leave Real Madrid having spent 12 years at the club. As per the report, Modric is far from happy with coach Carlos Ancelotti’s decision to bench him in consecutive matches.

This is what Croatia’s Under 17 coach Robert Jarni had to say about Modric’s situation at the club – “The way I see it, I think he’s not feeling very well now and is going to look for a way out. This is football.” Jarni added, “I think entering at the last minutes is not good for him”.

Modric is reportedly frustrated with having to play as a backup option to better suit the team. The 38-year-old signed a one-year extension with Real Madrid last summer but has only started 10 out of the 19 La Liga games. Given how competitive he has been throughout his career, he surely wants to be more involved. As per the report, this is what Modric said about the situation – “I’m not sure I’ve been on the bench for the three games in a row, that feeling was especially strange to me. The coach decided it for his own reasons. I repeat I didn’t stay to stay, but I want to play and enjoy football.’

Modric arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 from Tottenham. He quickly became a crucial part of Real Madrid’s midfield, finding his place alongside the likes of Casemiro and Toni Kroos. Modric also helped shape an era where he won three league titles with Los Blancos while bagging the Champions League trophy five times in his career.

In 2018, Modric had one of the finest years of his career while playing for Real Madrid and the Croatia national team. He won his fourth Champions League crown with Real Madrid while also featuring in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final with Croatia. He also won the Golden Ball award at the tournament for his amazing performances and for leading his nation into their first-ever World Cup final. He also won the 2018 Ballon d’Or trophy.
