Robert Lewandowski has become the fifth player to register 50-plus goals for Barcelona in the La Liga after turning 30. The Polish striker achieved the monumental feat during the last league fixture against Deportivo Alaves on Sunday, October 7. He scored a hat-trick in the away game, taking his tally of La Liga goals to 52. Previously, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Cesar Rodriguez and Quini have scored more than 50 goals for Barcelona in the domestic league after ringing in their 30th birthday. Messi tops the charts with 125 goals, while Suarez, Rodriguez and Quini scored 76, 65 and 53 times respectively.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona in the summer of 2022 at the age of 33. In his debut season, he netted 23 goals in his 34 La Liga appearances. In the next campaign, he managed to find the back of the net 19 times in 34 league matches.
Lewandowski once again returned to his brilliant form under Hansi Flick this season. Having featured in nine La Liga games, the 36-year-old forward has scored 10 goals. With his hat-trick against Alaves, Lewandowski also equalled a long-standing record of Messi.
The former Bayern Munich star broke the deadlock with a towering header early in the first half. He scored the second 15 minutes later, capitalising on a high-quality pass by Raphinha. Lewandowski once again showcased his sublime goal-scoring prowess in the 31st minute to make it 3-0 for Barcelona.
This was the first time since February 2020 that Barcelona scored a hat-trick in the first half of a La Liga fixture. Messi was the last man to make it happen against Eibar.
Not only Lewandowski but two other Barcelona players, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, have also been in red-hot form this season. The trio has already recorded 23 goals together across all competitions and their tally is the highest for any front three, featuring in Europe’s top five leagues.
With the dominant 3-0 win against Alaves, Barcelona solidified their lead at the top of the La Liga standings. They have lost only one of their nine matches so far this season. Barcelona are now three points ahead of Real Madrid, who are placed in the second spot in the standings with 21 points.
