Premier League side Aston Villa registered an emphatic 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday at the Villa Park to solidify third position in the league.
Scottish international John McGinn netted the lone goal in the side’s slender victory over the title chasers.
Aston Villa are on a brilliant run in the Premier League as they followed up their shocking win over champions Manchester City with their statement performance against Arsenal.
With the win over Mikel Arteta’s men, Aston Villa now have 35 points from their 16 games so far this season having won 11, drawn 2 and lost the other 3. And only table-toppers Liverpool, who have amassed 37 points, and Arsenal, who have 36 points to their name, stand above Villa and McGinn expressed that amid all the excitement, the word ‘Title’ is banned in the Villa dressing room.
“So there’s a long, long way to go. And like I said, we respect everyone round about us, who have been in these positions for years. They are so experienced in it. We are newbies, can we keep up?”, he said.
“I don’t know. We’ll see. Hopefully. The targets have certainly been revised, whether that’s as ambitious as what you’re trying to force, I mean, I don’t think so. But we’ll take a couple of days. We’ve got a game on Thursday in Bosnia,” the 29-year-old continued.
Villa are scheduled to take on Bosnian unit Zrinjski in the UEFA Europa Conference League midweek and will look to secure the top spot they currently hold in the group stage of the continental tournament.
“Hope it’s not too cold to try and get first in the group and then we’ll reevaluate for next week,” the Scot continued.
McGinn also spoke about the injury concerns in the lineup following the win over the London giants on Saturday.
“We’ve actually lost Luca and Douglas I think for the Brentford game, we always have a really tough game there,” he iterated.
“So it’s getting our minds back on it and in trying to improve our away form which isn’t horrendous but it can be improved,” McGinn concluded.
