Haryana Police has arrested Congress MLA from Nuh, Mamman Khan, in connection with the violence that broke out in various parts of the city on July 31. Satish Kumar, Ferozepur Jhirkha Deputy Superintendent of Police and the head of the SIT investigating the case, confirmed the arrest on Friday.

Hours after his arrest, the BJP-led Haryana government on Friday ordered the suspension of mobile Internet and the bulk SMS services in the district for two days. A government order in this regard does not mention anything about Khan’s arrest though.

The mobile internet has also been temporarily suspended in Nuh District from 10:00 a.m. on September 15 to 11:59 p.m. on September 16.

“We have imposed Section 144 CrPcin Nuh and we have also requested people to offer Friday prayers at their homes,” Nuh Superintendent Of Police.

Khan, the Ferozepur Jhirka legislator, was named an accused in an FIR lodged after the communal clashes. He was arrested late last night, the Haryana Police said. Adequate police forces have been deployed in the entire Nuh district following Khan’s arrest.

Tight security arrangement has been made in and around the court complex where Khan is expected to be produced by the police later in the day.

Khan was named an accused in an FIR lodged after the Nuh violence, the Haryana government had told the High Court on Thursday, also claiming that the police have the phone call records and other evidence to back the charges.

The Haryana government had last month too suspended mobile Internet services in the Nuh district for several days after the July 31 incident of violence.

Haryana’s Additional Advocate General Deepak Sabharwal told the High Court that Khan was named an accused on September 4 after the evidence against him was evaluated. There was “ample evidence” against him, he later told reporters on Thursday.

A Vishva Hindu Parishad-led procession was attacked by mobs in Nuh on July 31. Six people were killed, most of them during the attack. A cleric died in an attack on a mosque in adjoining Gurugram.
