Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man 4 has yet to be greenlit, but talks about the impending film have already begun. According to recent reports, Justin Lin, the director of Fast and Furious 9, is one of the filmmakers being considered for the role. The same report claims that Tom Holland and Zendaya will reprise their respective parts as Peter Parker and MJ.
According to the Comic Book, insider Jeff Sneider said Zendaya will be focusing on Spider-Man 4 first, which means that filming for Euphoria Season 3 will be delayed until later. Previously, it was reported that shooting for season 3 of Max’s blockbuster series Euphoria had been halted.
Spider-Man 4 is set to begin production later this year, in September or October, and it’s unknown if Lin is a finalist or simply one of several candidates vying for the role.
Interestingly, considering the character’s present standing in the bigger Marvel Cinematic Universe, many had assumed the Spidey follow-up would be a rather small-scale project, according to Comic Book.
It also said that this appears to go against to the expertise of a director like Lin, who has essentially directed exclusively big-budget studio productions.
The only characters that are coming back as of right now are Holland and Zendaya, and further information is being withheld. It’s also unclear if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who starred in the multibillion-dollar blockbuster No Way Home in 2021, will reprise their roles.
Holland has also voiced contradictory thoughts about reprising his role, but he eventually resolved on being there to transfer the torch to the next actor to portray Spider-Man, whoever that might be.
“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” Holland told Collider in November of the previous year.
He continued by saying that he feels quite protective of Spider-Man and that it is another matter entirely whether or not we can find an approach to honour the character.
He went on to say that he considers himself extremely fortunate to have been able to work on a series that improved and became more popular with each film, which he believes is extremely unusual, and that he wishes to preserve his legacy.
He said that he would not create another just to create one. It will have to be worth the while of the character, he added.
