Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer clinched seven trophies at the 96th Academy Awards.

As Hollywood gathers for the 96th Academy Awards, all eyes remain on 2023’s major blockbusters including Oppenheimer and Barbie. This once again renews the films’ rivalry to mark last summer’s “Barbenheimer” phenomenon. Taking a hilarious dig at the clash, Barbie’s Ryan Gosling and Oppenheimer’s Emily were seen roasting each other through playful remarks on the Oscars 2024 stage. Ryan and Emily, while presenting a special tribute to stunt performers, left no stone unturned to bring the “Barbenheimer” trend back to the stage.

While Ryan Gosling began by saying, “I am happy that we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry aside,” Blunt quipped back and said, “The way this award season has turned out, it wasn’t that much of a rivalry. Just let it go!” giving a nod to Oppenheimer’s dominance at awards shows like Golden Globes, BAFTA, and SAG, among others.

To this end, as Ryan started by congratulating the success of Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb film, he further took a jibe, saying, “You know, I think I kind of figured out why it’s called Barbenheimer and not Oppenbarbie. You’re on the tail end because you rode Barbie’s coat tales all summer.”

As the audiences were left in splits upon the duo’s epic banter, Emily went on to mention her Oppenheimer co-star Robert Downey Jr. and took a dig at Gosling for “painting abs to get nominated.”

Oppenheimer wins big at the Oscars

Notably, both Ryan and Blunt were nominees at the 96th Academy Awards. Known for playing Oppenheimer’s Kitty and Barbie’s Ken, Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling were nominated in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories, respectively. Oppenheimer took away seven awards at the ceremony. They included the Best Director for Christopher Nolan, the Best Actor trophy for Cillian Murphy, the Best Picture, the Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., and the Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt, among others.

On the other hand, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell also made history by becoming the youngest two-time winners after winning an Oscar for the Barbie track What Was I Made For? It was one of the two nominated songs from the film.
