Taylor Swift is currently standing at the peak of her music career, achieving billionaire status while expanding her devoted fanbase through the Eras Tour. However, her skyrocketing fame and packed schedule led her to decline several high profile offers, including from the Royal Family. Surprising many, Swift turned down invitations related to King Charles’ coronation and Meghan Markle’s podcast. The singer hasn’t opened up why she declined such offers but her decision to give up on these opportunities, despite their potential to increase her wealth and fame, has sparked speculation and curiosity.
Taylor was among the artists who declined an invitation to perform at the coronation. While a specific reason for her rejection wasn’t revealed, reports indicated that the singer had a scheduling conflict due to her Eras Tour performance scheduled in Nashville on the day of the coronation.
Omid Scobie, a Welsh journalist known for his coverage of the Royals, recently released his book titled Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival. In the book, Scobie disclosed that prominent names like Sir Elton John, Harry Styles, the Spice Girls, Ed Sheeran and Adele also turned down invitations from the Royals. This series of refusals posed a challenge for the event organisers in arranging for entertainment for the royal ceremony, as reported by Yahoo News.
In June 2023, Page Six reported that Taylor Swift declined an invitation from Meghan Markle to appear on her podcast, Archetypes, which was later cancelled. According to reports, Markle reached out to Swift with a handwritten letter, to be a guest on the podcast. Despite this effort, Swift apparently declined the offer without acknowledging or responding to Markle’s request.
Rumours circulated about potential tensions between the two artists; however, these speculations were debunked after Meghan decided to attend Swift’s Eras Tour in Los Angeles. According to People magazine, Meghan not only showed up at the concert but also joined in singing along, You Belong with Me. Accompanied by her friend Lucy Fraser, Meghan attended the event while Prince Harry was in Tokyo, Japan, attending the ISPS Sports Values Summit-Special Edition.
Meghan Markle’s podcast concluded after the first season, which had 12 episodes. Following the completion of this initial season, Meghan and Harry decided to part ways with Spotify, the platform that streamed her podcast. This decision to end their association with Spotify came just three years after the couple had initially signed a $20 million deal with the streaming service.
