- Create a new "Item for Sale" listing on Facebook Marketplace. Use "Garage sale" as the title and include photos of your items.
- Create an Event for your garage sale. Include the location, date, and time, along with pictures of your items.
- Use your status to advertise. Enter a location, date, time, and tag friends to help promote your sale.
Using Facebook Marketplace
Log into your Facebook account. If you don't have an account, you can create one.
Click Marketplace from your newsfeed. It's located on the left side of the page. You can also click the shop icon at the top of the page.
Click + Create new listing. You can find this on the left side of the page.
Click Item for Sale. Since Facebook Marketplace no longer has a Garage Sale category, you'll need to advertise your garage sale using the regular item listing.
Click Add Photos to add photos. Take a good photo of your garage or lawn with most of your items in view; this will be the first image people see. You'll have a total of 10 slots to showcase your items for sale. If you have a lot of items spread around, you can also take a video. Click Add Video to upload the video.
Add in your details. You can be as descriptive as you want, but Title: Use a title such as Garage sale, Yard sale, or Moving sale. Optional: Put your address in the title along with the date (x/x/2023 or TODAY) Price: Enter an amount close to the average price of your items. You can also simply put $1 or $0. Category: Select a category that matches the majority of your items, or Miscellaneous. More Details: Enter your address and date/time of the sale first. Then, enter any details that can help potential buyers, such as location help, active hours, unique/rare items, etc. If you don't see this field, click More Details.
Tap Next. This will be at the bottom of the left panel. You'll need to finalize your listing.
Tap "Delivery method" and select Local pickup only. This will ensure that people know you won't be shipping any items out.
Click Publish. Your Facebook Marketplace listing will be published. Be sure to keep an eye on your messages in case any potential buyers want to contact you beforehand.
Using Events
Log into your Facebook account. If needed, you can reset it.
Click on Events from your newsfeed page. This will be listed on the left side of the screen.
Add a cover photo. Click the top of the page to upload a photo. Be sure to upload a photo of your garage or lawn with most of your items in view; this will be the image people see.
Enter an event name. Use a name such as Garage sale, Yard sale, or Moving sale.
Enter a start date and time. Click the field for each and select a date and time for your garage sale.
Fill in additional details. Click the Is it in person or virtual field and select In person. Click Who can see it? and select Public to ensure your event reaches as many people as possible. Click What are the details? field and enter additional details that can help potential buyers, such as location help, active hours, unique/rare items, etc.
Click Create event. This is the blue button at the bottom of the window.
Click the Share button to advertise it. You can share this event with friends, via messenger, or publish it as a post. You can pay for traditional advertising by clicking Promote Event at the top. This will allow you to pay for time to promote the visibility of your garage sale across Facebook.
Using Status Updates
Log into your Facebook account. If you don't have an account, you'll need to make one.
Click What's on your mind?. A pop-up window will open.
Enter your details. Include Garage Sale at the top of your post along with your address, date, and time of the event. Below that, enter additional details that can help potential buyers, such as location help, active hours, unique/rare items, etc.
Add pictures. Click the Photo/video icon to upload. Be sure to upload a photo of your garage or lawn with most of your items in view; this will be the image people see.
Set the audience. Click Only me and select Public to ensure your event reaches as many people as possible.
Tap Post. This is the blue button on the bottom. Your status will be posted. Try tagging friends to promote your garage sale.
