How to Shoot Stock Photography
How to Shoot Stock Photography
Stock Photography has a lot of supporters and probably just as many naysayers. Regardless, it is here to stay. Shooting stock photos could help you earn some money and/or get your foot in the photographic door.
Steps

Develop your skill in photography. While you may have gotten some lucky shots in the past, earning a living with stock photography takes some skill along with a bit of business sense.

Shoot what you know. Don't just shoot at what you think everyone wants. If you have a strength, or interest, use it.

Keep the shots simple. Don't put too much in any one picture. A 'busy' picture will not usually sell.

Take more than one shot and angle of any picture. Stock photography, is quite often, a numbers game. If you take a LOT of pictures, (providing their quality is good), something will eventually sell.

Try to strive for being different without over doing it. That individuality may be what sells or what catches people's eyes.

Develop a comprehensive work flow. Different things work for different people. Find what works for you and stick with it.

Know where your photographs are. This is part of your work flow. Processing the images as soon as you are done taking them and cataloging and/or tagging them will help you substantially.

Find stock photo companies. There are several of them. Check them out to see if they suit your purpose. It is also a good idea to ask your photographic compatriots about experiences they have had.

Educate yourself about the business side of it. If you go into it totally unaware, you will find yourself on the losing end.

What's your reaction?
